Set in 1877 New Orleans, Bodice is the story of Mary Smith who has been raised in a convent orphanage where she has been warned about wickedness in a sinful world (“Sin, Lust. Depravity”).  Yearning for love, she is instantly attracted to Julian Beaumont, a wealthy, charming womanizer who hires her as governess for his bratty daughter (“Love At First Sight”). When Julian’s brother Ben arrives after a long absence, he learns that Julian has usurped his inheritance and doubtless intends to seduce Mary.  Ben plans to save the day.  Julian plans to kill him ("Unfortunate News").
